Protect Yourself From an HVAC Scammer
There are a lot of different HVAC contractors here in Florida, and not all of them are reputable. It’s important that you do everything you can to make sure you don’t fall victim to a classic HVAC scam. Purchasing a repair or a comfort system that you don’t need is something that happens all too often in our industry, and we try to do everything we can to prevent that from happening.
Here’s some tips on how you can prevent falling victim to a HVAC Scam:
Know Your Unit
Preparation is key! Get to know your unit, understand how it runs while it is running well, you can even take pictures of the system, so you have a reference point. Knowing how your system is an important part of understanding how it should run when healthy and helps you prepare for when things go wrong.
You can even schedule an appointment with an HVAC tech to assess the current state of your HVAC. This will give you a better idea of what the problem is when something happens, which keeps fraudulent HVAC companies in check.
Do Your Research
There are a lot of different HVAC systems available for you to buy, and there are a lot of different companies for your to employ, it’s important that you do your research on both. There are a lot of questions you need to ask yourself when investing in a new HVAC, and knowing what systems are out there and available to your will help you make a better decision. Should you compromise maximum comfort to fit your budget better? What kind of energy efficiency do you want from your unit? It’s important to do your research so you can answer those questions.
It’s also important that you must research different HVAC contractors. Talk to your friends and family, and check out reviews online to get an idea of the kind of service you can expect from a company. Also, see what they say on their website and find out what they’re certified to work on, so you make sure you hire a qualified technician. You can confirm a contractor’s license here!
Watch for Misleading Telemarketing Calls
Often times telemarketing companies will call to try to gain your business and take you away from your current air conditioning provider. These calls sometimes are vague and they may even say that they took new ownership of your current company… it’s not cool. So if you get a call that sounds out of the ordinary be sure to call our office to verify the reason for the call. Be sure that it was your trusted team at Quality Control Air and not a telemarketer.
Trust Your Gut
You’ve put in the work and the effort, trust yourself to know when something is wrong. If a contractor’s plan for you changes, get a good explanation. If you have any questions make sure the contractor provides a quality answer. And, if anything strikes you as a red-flag, don’t be afraid to stop them from working. Remember that this is your money being spent, and your HVAC being installed.
Now it’s time to enjoy the fruits of your labor. A new HVAC will save energy and money on monthly bills because it’s brand new and works with more efficiency, so enjoy the savings and the comfort!
